Sports channels at the lowest price

If sports is the only reason you watch TV, you don't want to spend on the other channels. Here’s how to get all of them at the lowest price with your operator.

With the internet creeping into much of what was formerly TV time, you probably don’t turn on the box as often as you used too. This hasn’t – and probably not for a long time – changed for sports. If you want to catch a game, there’s no replacement to the TV. If you’ve picked your DTH package based on the number of sports channels being offered, you’re doing it all wrong. The cheapest way to do it is always to pick the sports channel as an add-on. Here’s how with the six DTH providers in the country.

Airtel
Pick A la carte option
Why? The only pack which includes major sports channels, the Mega pack, costs Rs350 per month, a steep Rs135 per month more than what you would have to shell out for by opting for the a la carte option with Airtel. The Mega pack also consists of many regional language channels to add up for their advertised 208 channels. With the a la carte option you can select which sports channels you are most likely to watch and pay accordingly.
Sports channels included ESPN, Neo Prime, Neo Sports, Star Cricket, Star Sports, Ten Cricket, Ten Sports and Ten Action.
Cost Rs235 per month.

DishTV
Pick A la carte option
Why? The only package which offers major sports channels is the Family Sports package and even that does not include ESPN which has to be bought as an a la carte option. By opting for this package and adding ESPN you would get a monthly bill of Rs290 per month. Much more expensive that what it would take you to watch all sports channels opting for the a la carte option.
Sports channels included ESPN, Star Sports, Star Cricket, Neo Sports, Neo Prime, Ten Sports, Ten Action and Ten Cricket.
Cost Rs175 per month.

Reliance
Pick A la carte option
Why? Of all the options provided by Reliance DTH, the a la carte option provides the best value for money. Set across three different packs, this option turns out to be much cheaper than the Jumbo Sports pack which provides all sports channels as an add-on. To subscribe to the Jumbo Sports pack, you would have to opt for a base plan for Rs220 a month with the sports pack costing Rs96 a month. The a la carte option not only provides a better range of sports channels to pick from but also at a cheaper rate.
Sports channels included ESPN, Star Sports, Star Cricket, Neo Prime, Neo Sports, Ten Action, Ten Sports and Ten Cricket.
Cost Rs157 per month.

Sun Direct
Pick A la carte option
Why? The Mega Sports pack offered by Sun Direct claims to be for sports fans, but still does not provide many sports channels. Missing out on essentials from Neo and Ten, you have to opt for these through the a la carte option. The total for selecting such an arrangement would cost you Rs368 a month to watch all sports channels.
Sports channels included ESPN, Star Sports, Star Cricket, Neo Prime, Ten Action, Ten Sports and Ten Cricket.
Cost Rs178 per month.

TataSky
Pick A la carte option
Why? The cheapest package to include all sports channels is the Sports Bonanza Pack which can only be purchased as an add-on to a base pack. With the a la carte option, you can select a number of sports channels for a cheaper rate. But the price difference between the two is only Rs54, so it wouldn’t be a bad option to opt for the package offered by TataSky.
Sports channels included ESPN, Star Sports, Star Sports 2, Neo Sports, Neo Prime, Star Cricket, Ten Sports, Ten Cricket and Ten Action
Cost Rs279 per month.

Videocon
Pick New Gold Sports pack and Ten Cricket
Why? If you had to pick the sports channels provided in the New Gold Sports pack with the a la carte option, it would cost you Rs225 a month. By opting for the New Gold Sports pack with Ten Cricket as an add-on, you would be paying more every month but getting far more value of your television experience with the 305 channels which come with it.
Sports channels included DD sports, Neo Sports, Neo Prime, Star Sports, ESPN, Star Cricket, Ten Sports, Ten Action, Fox Sports News and Sony Six.
Cost Rs315 per month.
