Box TV: Cheapest video-on-demand service

The online movie and TV show streaming service has launched new plans where you can see latest titles for as cheap as Rs20 LEGALLY. We also compare its plans with BIG Flix.

New movies are now available a few weeks after their release on the big screen. You can watch them on a TV channel at home while suffering the long ad breaks, rent or buy a DVD of it or – and this is the one we recommend – simply stream the movie online. We’ve been able to do this with Reliance’s BIG Flix, but new service Box TV has made it a much cheaper, easier proposition (at times, it’s even free). Starting at Rs20 for access for 24 hours, Box TV gives you a whole bunch of movies and TV shows online.

How it works
The process of ordering a video is simple. You subscribe and you have unlimited access for the length of time you subscribe for. You can also stream movies on your smartphone, tablet and other internet enabled device with the Box TV app. You can also choose to pay via SMS from your phone. This mode of transaction does not require a credit card.

What’s on offer
A large collection of movies, TV shows and documentaries are available for subscribers. Some movies and shows can also be streamed for free. The collection stretches over different languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi and Kannada. Here are the latest and popular titles included in the library:

Movies Lootera, Ratatouille, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, Donnie Brasco, Shor In The City, Hitch and Ishqiya.

TV Shows Air Crash Investigations, Alias, Desperate Housewives, Dilbert, Community, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost.

The only edge which BIGFlix has over Box TV is its option to let you download videos. All other aspects are almost similar and Box TV gives you the added advantage of cheaper subscription pricing. Box TV also gives you the option to watch TV shows, a feature missing on BIGFlix till now. Between the two online portals, Box TV would be the best option for streaming videos.
