Smaller footwear brands worth buying
Looking for a trendy pair of shoes for the festive season? You don’t need to splurge for good quality. Two designers tell us which little-known Indian footwear stores are worth checking out.
There’s no need to rush to Charles & Keith or Catwalk and spend a quarter of your month’s salary on footwear. While at least one or two pairs of expensive branded footwear may be desirable, you need not break the bank every time you need heels or fancy shoes. Designers Ayesha Aejaz and Rajdeep Ranawat, and owner of Cally Footwear Pushpita Gaur share their picks with us:
MAX: Ayesha says that MAX outlets have a wide range of shoes which include, heels, flats, mojris and sport shoes. The highlight of MAX footwear is you get it at extremely reasonable costs in comparison to other brands. Ayesha says, “In my opinion, the quality is good and I’d suggest customers to not miss their sales.” She also mentioned that she once got four pairs of footwear during a sale for around Rs1,500 in all.

Alpha: Alpha has a separate shoe section which is affordable yet stylish. They stock all kinds of footwear and Ayesha especially likes their boots. The range starts from Rs300 and goes up to Rs1,000.

Metro: While not as reasonable as the other shops on this list, Metro still provides quality and style in a lesser price tag than other domestic shoe brands. Rajdeep loves the brand’s versatility and he says that their designs are international in their look without being over-the-top (see pic above). While expensive shoes are also available, you can find something here starting from Rs600.

Lifestyle: Pushpita finds that Lifestyle stocks a funky and dynamic range with inexpensive price tags. She also says that they keep on refreshing their collection quite frequently. You can find a nice pair for Rs600, depending on what you are looking for.

La Judi: If you’re in Mumbai, Pushpita recommends going here. She says that this petite shop has some great stuff around the year and you can pick up something that will be appropriate for a classy party as well. From subdued to blingy options, they have them all. The prices are fixed and start from just Rs300. A word of caution though: the designs are great, but their durability depends highly on how well you take care of them.
