Domestic flight ticket discounts
Airline fuel prices have already raised ticket costs significantly for domestic travel. But there are a handful of discounts from airlines that will help you lower your costs.
With aviation fuel rates going up, airlines have no option but pass on their increased expenses to us. You may have read that SpiceJet has already increased its rates by 30%, but anecdotal evidence suggests that all airlines have already (September 4, 2013) raised their rates. The cheapest return tickets for the short flight to Goa from Mumbai, for example, are now Rs7,000 per person even if you book two months in advance. That’s a big increase, so to get you used to paying higher prices, airlines and travel agents are offering fairly good discounts. Here’s what they’ve got right now:
GoAir is offering a discount on airfare if you book a return trip with them (called Smart Return). For example, when we checked return tickets for October 19-20 on their website, we were offered a discount of close to Rs900. In addition to this, ICICI Bank customers can avail of a flat 20% discount on domestic base airfare using the promotion code ‘ICICIG8PR’. This offer is only valid for flights until September 30, 2013.
If you haven’t signed up with IndiGo, you’re in luck. You can get a flat 10% discount on the base fare if you simply register on their website and then book a flight ticket. Discounts are also being offered on return trips in which you can save up to 30% on the base fare while booking.
SpiceJet doesn’t have any discounts running but if you get yourself a SpiceJet SBI card which has a one-time joining fee of up to Rs499 and a yearly charge of Rs499, there will be discounts. A 5% cashback on total fare, a one-time Rs500 discount voucher and five in-flight meal vouchers are offered under this card. You can also get a five kilo excess baggage waiver five times a year with this card.
Online travel agents
Cleartrip is offering Rs200 off on domestic flights if you use the code ‘DEAL200’, but you’ll have to pay by card and the offer is only valid on bookings till September 30, 2013. The website is also offering Rs400 off on domestic roundtrip flights and Rs1,000 off on international roundtrip flights booked using its mobile app. Again, you’ll have to pay by debit or credit card in order to avail of the offer.
Register for Yatra’s quickbook feature and get up to Rs400 off on flight bookings. You can also save Rs400 on booking four or more tickets. Other offers include Rs500 off on return ticket and Rs250 or Rs200 off on one-way tickets for ICICI and HDFC card holders. If you have a SBI card, you can get 20% off on the base fare for both domestic and international flights.
If you are booking round trip tickets, GoIbibo is offering discounts up to Rs1,200 depending on your flight’s ticket value. Other offers also include cheaper fares for using GoIbibo’s mobile app.
Book any ticket on Jet Airways, IndiGo, GoAir, Air India or SpiceJet and get Rs200 flat as cashback. This offer is valid on bookings made till September 8 only. To get this offer, use the promocode ‘EZ1DOD03’ at the checkout page.
