Free stuff around town this weekend
We compile a list of free concerts and exhibitions around Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. The pick of the week is a concert of chamber music in Mumbai.
What: Vocalist Sania Patankar will be accompanied by Mandar Puranik on tabla and Rohit Marathe on harmonium at this year’s Pt Krishnarao Shankar Pandit Smriti Utsav. Sana will be followed by sarod player, Abhishek Lahiri.

What: The Pao Collective will show site-specific installations and drawings at Diesel’s Juhu exhibition space.

What: Jarry Singla, a western classical pianist, will perform with Hindustani classical vocalist Sanjeev Chimmalgi, sitar player Hindol Deb and tabla player Vinayak Netke at Max Mueller Bhavan.

What: Hindustani classical slide guitarist Manish Pingle will play monsoon ragas at Kala Ghoda Friday evening.

What: M Mat aka Mathieu Josso will spin house and techno music at Aurus tonight.

What: Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology’s students and faculty will discuss the Bangalore’s Rex Theatre. It will also focus on the changing landscape and infrastructure of the city and the evolution of public spaces over time. An artwork involving the Rex Theatre is also being planned to be displayed along with the artwork by students and alumni of Srishti.

What: Sandeep Malani, a Mumbai-based filmmaker, will present Malani’s Chitrahaar, a musical tribute to the Indian film industry. The tribute will comprise songs from the black-and-white era and recent compositions from Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Tamil films.

What: The Metro project was launched a while back in Bangalore. Rangoli Metro Art Centre will present the Making of the Metro – 2, which will include underground metro station models and images. The models on display will be of Cubbon Park station and Vidhana Soudha metro station. All models have been made to a scale of 1:200 and will show the important areas of the station.

What: The 40 Works of Hemant Rao will explore elements and forms from nature. Rao, who prefers to use dry pastels on canvas, has previously been part of group shows that take place at Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai and the India Art Fair in Delhi.

What: To commemorate the 20th death anniversary of renowned thumri singer Naina Devi, the programme will feature a performance by her disciple Suhasini Koratkar. A varied mix of thumris, dadra, hori, chaiti, kajri and jhoola compositions will be rendered at this event.

What: The Think Small exhibition will focus on small-format works. The artists who will feature in this exhibition are S H Raza, Sakti Burman, Anjolie Ela Menon, Thota Vaikuntam, Manu Parekh, Yusuf Arakkal, Rini Dhumal, Akkitham Narayanan, Shobha Broota, Senaka Senanayake, Paresh Maity, Maite Delteil, Sujata Bajaj, Apurva Desai and Jayasri Burman.
