Discount your meal: The Coup Card returns

If you haven’t heard of it before, the card, available in Delhi, Mumbai and Goa, gives you discounts on food and alcohol at the hottest restaurants. Hurry, they run out very quickly.

Who isn’t complaining about high restaurant prices? Before hitting the latest restaurant it’s become almost necessary to check the prices on Zomato. Rs350 for a pint before tax? Let’s have a couple of rounds before. Well, that’s our money-saver logic for you. But you can’t skip Indigo Deli or Mamagoto altogether either, right? Every now and then, you can justify the two Rs800 cocktails and the Rs6,000 bill. Well, here’s a card that will make it a bit easier to make that justification.

What? The Coup Card, available in Mumbai, Goa and Delhi (sold out), gives you a 15% discount on your entire bill at several pricey restaurants. Depending on the location you’ve bought the card for, you’ll also receive a host of other discounts (scroll to the bottom to find out what discounts are available in your city/state).

How much? The week-long card, available only in Mumbai and Goa, costs just Rs500, the six-month card costs Rs2,100 in Mumbai, while the year-long card is Rs3,800. The Delhi card has been sold out and will be back only in November (there’s already a waitlist).

Is it worth it? If you go out a lot, sure. A 15% discount is not enough to make a place that’s out of your budget affordable, but if you’re going to go there anyway, it’s a no-brainer. You’d need to spend Rs25,333 to make the card worth it over a year. With the six-month card, you’d need to spend Rs14,000 to recover all your money. If you’re in Mumbai, also remember that your card is valid at Godrej Nature’s Basket. A couple of full-fledged shopping trips there would easily net you a discount of a couple of thousand.

Don’t think you’re saving any money while placing these orders, but here are just 10 items that would make the six-month card worth it in Mumbai:

Where What How much
Le Pain Quotidien 1 Granola Parfait with Yoghurt Rs1500
Mamagoto 1 Pork Spare Ribs Rs1195
Ellipsis 1 Australian Ribeye Steak Rs2500
The White Owl 1 Pitcher of Biddy Rs2445
Neel 1 Kali Mirch aur Dhaniya Salmon Ki Tikka Rs885
Le15 Patisserie 1kg of Summer Love Rs1650
Indigo Deli 1 Cheese Fondue Rs845
Busaba 1 Grilled Lobster Rs840
Kofuku 1 Chilean Sea Bass in Spicy Black Bean Sauce Rs1350
Godrej Nature’s Basket 200g Gruyere cheese Rs800
Total Rs14,010

Must-know condition One important thing to remember, particularly if you’re thinking of getting the week-long card around your birthday, is that the discount is only applicable to a table of four. If you have 10 people at your table, 40% of the meal will receive a 15% discount.
